Teak Garden Furniture
Teak is a highly desirable material for outdoor furniture.
Most teak
garden furniture is made from teak harvested from new growth
teak plantations, and for good reason. Teak harvested from old growth
teak forests endangers the environment and destroys the habitat of
several key species of plant and animals. New growth teak plantations
grow new wood, which is a sustainable resource, and can be re-grown. It
was thought for a long time that old growth teak was superior for teak
garden furniture to new growth teak, and in many ways this is true. Old
growth teak is superior to new growth teak in the fact that it is
harder, and less likely to crack.
New techniques for tempering new growth teak have recently developed
that make new growth teak just as viable a building material as old
growth teak. In this new process for the renewable resource of new
growth teak, the teak wood is kiln dried prior to its use in the
building of teak
furniture. This process makes the new growth teak harder, and
less likely to crack. This is a good thing, too, because the market for
teak is growing exponentially every year, and with demand, there will
be supply, one way or another. Thanks to this new process of kiln
drying, the wood supplied to manufacturers to build teak outdoor
furniture will be new growth, which can easily be re-grown, instead of
old growth, with is a non renewable natural resource.
Teak garden furniture is a beautiful addition to any garden. With teak garden furniture
there is an extra layer of protection from both the elements and from
wood eating insects. Teak is highly prized because it's natural oils
repel the elements, and with an added layer of lacquer, for an
impenetrable layer of preservative. Teak patio
furniture is a good choice for this reason, and for many
others, but teak garden furniture isn't the only application
